Kopaonik is the largest mountain range in Serbia, the length of 82.7 km (from 42°43ʹʼ36ʺ to 43°28ʹ01ʺ north latitude) and a width of 63.5 km (from 20°37ʹ09ʺ to 21°24ʹ02ʺ east longitude).

It stretches between the rivers Ibar and Sitnica in the west and the south-east of the Lab River. Provides a wide ridge route from the hill above Kosovska Mitrovica in the northwest, through a series of peaks over 1,600 meters, the highest part of the massif, Flat Kopaonik, around which rise Suvo Rudište with Pančić peak (2,017 m), Karaman (1,934 m) and Gobelja (1,834 m).

The northern border of the massif is separated from the massive mountain Željin by Jošanička and Koznička river. On the western side along the entire ridge of Kopaonik is the valley of the Ibar River. The eastern side is bounded by the rivers Rasina and Toplica. Kopaonik is characterized by its geological structure of rocks of different inception and age (serpentine, granite, slate, marble, andesite, limestone). Today’s forms of reliefs of Kopaonik were created, over many years, by processes of erosion. Because of its natural values, one part of Kopaonik was declared a protected zone under the name National Park Kopaonik in 1981. on an area of 11,810 hectare, within which there is a number of protected nature reserves.

Traffic connections

Kopaonik is located 270 km south of Belgrade, and 100 km from Kraljevo. Tourist center Kopaonik can be reached from several directions:

– Ibar main road from Kraljevo through Biljanovac and Jošanička Banja and from Kosovska Mitrovica and Raška over the mines.
– Highway, from Pojate through Kruševac, Brus and Brzeće.
